Heroes and Villains
This project aims to looks at Europe's shared love of legends. One similarity all our stories share is the presence of strong heroes and villains. For this part of our project we looked at the traits and characteristics of some of our myths strongest characters.
Here is what we hope to achieve in this part of the project:

- Children examine heroes and villains (from legends) from both their own country and those in partner countries.
- Children write a profile of their chosen heroes and villains.
- Children look at the characteristics of heroes and villains and compare and contrast these with heroes and villains .
- Work will be collected to make a ‘Heroes and Villains in Europe’ book.
- Children create art work of their favourite heroes and villains. These will be collected and displayed on a hero and villains collage.
- One ‘hero’ will be chosen as a mascot to the project.

Elves and Trolls –“Heroes and Villains” in Finnish Mythology

What is an Elf?
An Elf is a small, childlike creature. Most easily seen around Christmastime, often wearing a red tunic and a pointed red hat topped with a sleigh bell. Keeps a close eye on children before Christmas, and will report any misbehavior to Santa Claus.
If you behaved badly, drank too much beer, mistreated your animals, showed greed or malice then elves repay you by making noises or throwing things, or ruining your hunting
Habitats.
Closely associated with human habitation, often specific building such as a farmhouse, stable or sauna.
The ''Christmas elves'' culture is very popular in many countries.
Christmas elves are Santa Clauses helpers which live in the Korvatunturi in Lapland.
Food.
Elves love soup and porridge.
Elves don't need much food. To keep an elf happy you must give him food.
WHAT IS A TROLL?
Trolls and humans are very similar species. Trolls are fast, strong and agile. There are three different troll species. Forest troll, River troll and Mountain troll.
It is thought that trolls could be the human race excreted branch, which is attuned to live especially in the forest. Trolls are erratic, dangerous and unreliable. Trolls do not want to be with people. Trolls move at night or indoors because trolls are afraid of sunlight. Trolls have very precise senses.
Trolls are slow, stupid, lazy and half-witted.
Some individuals are aggressive and can capture children, who stray
too far from home. Children today are also afraid of invisible tooth decay, which is in tooth decaying it secretly.
Some trolls may be shy and kindhearted and behaved.
Sometimes trolls commit to slapstick and thoughtlessness, but it can be due to enthusiasm and not evil. Trolls steal all kinds of things, such as candy.
Trolls' appearance
Trolls look like people, but a few differences arefound. Trolls have strong and rough fur. They are dirty and they have big ears. They have tangled, dirty and furry hair and usually troll men have thick beard. Trolls have long tails. Some trolls have abnormal colored eyes, for example yellowish. Many trolls have big noses. Trolls have often swarthier skin than people. They have strong nails. Trolls teeth are different to human beings. They have more teeth and the canine teeth are sharper.
Trolls are always hungry. Trolls eat people, when they get the chance. They rip the head off and throw it away, because they don't like the taste of brains. After that they eat the other parts of the body. Trolls never eat anything that's chewy. They never eat seafood either, because they are afraid of water.
Warning!
Don't feed the trolls, or else you might be their next dinner.
Habitation.
Trolls live in a cave on the side of a big, rocky mountain.
Habitat:.
dark forests and rocky ridges are the best places to find trolls.
Lifespan.
Trolls live from 50 years up to 80 years.
Comparing Elves and Trolls
Elves are small, Trolls are big. Elves are kind and they give presents for children on Christmas. Trolls are evil and mean and they can eat people.
Elves and trolls can live up to over a 100 years.
Trolls are ugly and they are similar to giants. Elves are cute and they look a bit like small humans.
Trolls don't like water, but Elves bathe in it.
Trolls have big ears, and Elves have pointed ears.
