LAND of legends
This part of the project looks at magical and mythical places in Europe. We all live in areas that have a rich culture of story and legends. It is hoped that through all these beautiful places we will see that we are all united In Europe - A land of Legends.
The Activities we must complete for this part of the project include
Children visit historical sites e.g Hill of Tara, Knossos, Dracula's Castle ..
Children take pictures and write about their tour.
These will be displayed on the project website/notice board.
Children do some research on the history of these areas and create projects through different inclusive media e.g Art, ICT, Music etc..
Projects will be displayed at exhibition
Work from all countries will be collected and put into a ‘Europe is a land of legends’ guidebook.
In Ireland WE followed in the footsteps of one of our great legendary heroes. Here is a little bit about the trip written by some 6th Class Students
Following in the Footsteps of Cú Chulainn
On Thursday the 3rd of March some teachers and students from the Senior classes went on a trip as part of our Erasmus+ project. We went to Knockbridge in Mid-Louth to see the stone which marks where Cú Chulainn died. It was three metres high and surrounded by beautiful countryside. According to the legend Queen Meadhbh’s army, after capturing the Brown Bull of Cooley, wanted to kill Cú Chulainn. They threw three spears up into the air. One of the spears hit Cú Chúlainn and he knew he was dying. But because he wanted to go down fighting and not lying down, he tied himself to this stone and remained there until he died. No-one knew he was dead until Morrigan (the Goddess of Death in the form of a raven) landed on his shoulder.
After this we went back to the bus and had lunch and played some football in the park before hitting the road again. We went to see the Statue of Cú Chulainn and Ferdia and where they had their battle in Ardee. We placed paper on the Celtic designs and coloured over it to get imprints and rubbings. We also sketched the stone and the statue and took lots of photographs.
After that we went back to school. It was a great trip and we learned a lot. We are doing projects about our trip at the moment and these will be taken to Spain for an exhibition.

We invited Le Chéile's families to visit local mythical sites and help a 'land of legends' exhibition in our school ..... Families did great work and we really enjoyed the exhibition ...
In Greece we learnt a lot about our mythical heritage
Grade A
Our 1st Graders are reading “Odysseus’ travels” from the book “My first mythology” and they love it!
From his many adventures with his companions, on leaving Troy and up to the point that he finally returns to his home of Ithaca, our students drew what impressed them the most.
