Music in our Myths
This part of our project focused on music and dance in our legends. Music has the power to create emotions and images in our mind. Traditionally music and myths have always been linked. Before t.v, music and storytelling were the main forms of entertainment!!

- Children listen to music from partner countries.
- Children explore the importance of music in myths and legends and look at myths where music and dance is especially important.
- Children visit a musical production of a legend.
- Children use simple percussion instruments to create a simple composition to represent a myth from one of the partner countries (a music teacher may be sourced to help with this.)
We all learned about a myth from a partner country and explored this through music.. We created songs, dances, raps and musical pieces!!

Kim's Third class in Le Chéile ETNS, Ireland really enjoyed learning about the legendary female warriors The Amazons from Turkey. They created chants and made up a rap..
Spain studied the legend of Miorita the mystical sheep and his shepherd from Romania. They worked with percussion instruments to represent this wonderful legend...
Italy studied all about the Finnish God Ukko! He is the God of the sky and weather. They used percussion instruments and made a chant to call the rain!
Aphrodite the Goddess of Love was born in Cyprus. Petra tou Romiou is the rock where she emerged fromt he foam. You can visit it between Limassol and Paphos. Turkey were paired with Cyprus. They wrote and sang a song about Aphrodite and her great mythical beauty!
Finland made a puppet show about the legend of Finn and the Fish. They also used recorders to play a traditional Irish song. They did a really good job!!
The 21st Primary School of Heraklion in Crete, Greece looked at the legend of ' Polyphemus Aci and Galatea' from Italy. They made a movie of the story using percussion and instruments to make a soundtrack and sound effects!!
In Alambra, Cyprus they examined the legend of the 'Broken Spout' from Jaen in Spain. They animated the story, accompanying it with a sound track of great rhythm, beats, chants and percussion!!
