Incredible Ireland
In May we held our final project transnational meeting in Drogheda, Ireland. The meeting was attended by visitors from Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Romania, Greece and Finland. Each corridor of the school was decorated to represent one of the countries and the place looked amazing. The visitors arrived to be greeted by the students council and given goodie bags compiled of maps, local information and other little treats. The visitors then moved to the school hall to be officially welcomed and given a little taster of some Irish Dancing. It was agreed that the students and staff of Le Chéile are a talented bunch. After a quick tea break the visitors had a tour of the school and got to meet some of the wonderful students. They were treated to a song, dance or poem from each of the classes.
Following some more lunch, the visitors then took part in the walking tour of Drogheda, They admired the views from the top of Millmount and marvelled at the artifacts in the great museum. We then visited sites such as Laurence's Gate and Oliver Plunkett's head in St. Peter's Church. This was followed by some shopping and a lovely dinner together in a local restaurant.
The next day started bright and early with a trip to Bettystown Beach. The visitors admired the sandy beach and loved collecting its colourful shells. Our 'Closing Assembly' followed this. This was attended by members of Léargas and Educate Together along with members of the school community and local press. The children had prepared a super multicultural dance based on themes and customs from each Erasmus country. The visitors really enjoyed the show and some were actually brought to tears. Following lunch and the final meeting, we went to visit the Ancient and mystical site of Newgrange. We really enjoyed our tour and seeing how the light would illuminate the tomb during the winter solstice. This was followed up with a tour of Slane Castle, which was enjoyable and informative.
The final day of the visit started bright and early when we headed towards Dublin. We took part in the Viking Splash tour which was great fun. Later we left our visitors to enjoy the sites of Dublin by themselves. They visited attractions such as Temple Bar, Trinity college and Christ Church.
Overall it was a very enjoyable and memorable visit. It has been a super two years working together and we are very sad our project has come to an end.
